PRAY FOR PEACE
– Name of the Poet not available
In the moments of the morn when the day is being born
Pray for Peace
When you’re standing at the sink with some moments
free to think
Pray for Peace
When you’re putting on your shoes and you hear the
daily news
Pray for Peace
When you dance and sing and play, let the song within
you say
Pray for Peace
When you’re watching children run laughing freely in
the sun
Pray for Peace
When you’re starting up your car, take a moment where
you are to
Pray for Peace
When you’re entering the door of an office or a store
Pray for Peace
When the checkout line is long, keep your peaceful vision
strong
Pray for Peace
When your call is put on hold, let your peaceful vision
strong
Pray for Peace
When the traffic line is slow, breathe in peace and feel it
flow
Pray for Peace
When you’re sitting by the fire and flames are leaping higher
Pray for Peace
At the ending of the day when you meditate and pray
Pray for Peace

Weight-related deaths can affect non-obese too
You don’t have to be diagnosed as obese to be at risk of dying from illnesses related to excess weight, a global study suggests. Of the 4 million deaths attributed to being overweight in 2015, nearly 40% were not considered clinically obese. The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, said the findings highlighted “a growing and disturbing global public health crisis.”
“People who shrug off weight gain do so at their own risk – risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and other life- -threatening conditions,” said Dr Christopher Murray, author of the study and director of the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington. “Those half- -serious New Year’s resolutions to lose weight should become year-round commitments to lose weight and prevent future weight gain.”
The study, which looked at 195 countries and territories over a period of 35 years, from 1980 to 2015, has revealed that 30% of the world’s population – 2.2 billion children and adults – are affected by excess weight.
Obesity has been increasing around the globe since 1980, doubling in more than 70 countries. The United States has the highest level of obesity among adults and children, at nearly 13% of the population. Egypt topped the list for adult obesity, at about 35%.
The report also found that the rate of obesity is increasing faster among children than adults. “The problem is not simply a function of income or wealth,” cites the report. “Increased availability, accessibility and affordability of energy-dense foods, along with intense marketing could explain weight gain in different populations.”

You need a healthy immune system to help fight
off infections and disease, and believe it or not, the
right kind of stress can actually help your body’s
defenses against illness. When you get sick, stress
[5] causes you to make hormones that battle threats to
your health. And this kind of stress is particularly
effective when at the early stages of an illness, when
your body needs help the most.
Now, it is true your immune system can only
[10] handle so much stress: if it lasts too long, these
hormones can overwhelm your body and actually
decrease your immunity. But that initial burst of stress
is an asset to your immune system when you’re the
most vulnerable, right when your body faces a threat.

During a total solar eclipse, the sky darkens to twilight
levels and air temperatures drop. Over the centuries,
people who have witnessed these effects have also
noted that a variety of animals seem to change their
[5] behaviors in response.
Reports of unusual animal reactions to solar eclipses
date back centuries. One of the earliest stories comes
from Italian monk Ristoro d'Arezzo, who described what
happened during a total eclipse on June 3, 1239. As
[10] the sun disappeared and the sky turned dark, “all the
animals and birds were terrified; and the wild beasts
could easily be caught,” he wrote.
During an eclipse seen in Portugal on August 21,
1560, astronomer Christoph Clavius wrote that during
[15] totality, “stars appeared in the sky and the birds fell
down from the sky to the ground in terror of such horrid
darkness.”
While it’s hard to confirm such colorful anecdotes
from history, modern astronomers and eclipse chasers
[20] have also reported wild and domestic animals noticeably
reacting to eclipses: Dairy cows return to the barn,
crickets begin chirping, birds either go to roost or
become more active, and whales breach in the seas.
Eclipse-chaser and author Dave Balch was in Kona,
[25] Hawaii, for the 1991 total eclipse and noticed excited
activity among the birds along the pier during the partial
phases before and after totality. “We could hardly hear
each other talk! Then came totality – not a sound. It was
deathly quiet. The difference between the noise levels
[30] before and during totality was stunning.”

Is gene editing ethical?
Gene editing is the modification of DNA sequences in living cells. What that means in reality is that researchers can either add mutations or substitute genes in cells or organisms.
Gene editing holds the key to preventing or treating debilitating genetic diseases, giving hope to millions of people around the world. Yet the same technology could unlock the path to designing our future children, enhancing their genome by selecting desirable traits such as height, eye color, and intelligence.
While this concept is not new, a real breakthrough came 5 years ago when several scientists saw the potential of a system called CRISPR/Cas9 to edit the human genome.
CRISPR/Cas9 allows us to target specific locations in the genome with much more precision than previous techniques. This process allows a faulty gene to be replaced with a non-faulty copy, making this technology attractive to those looking to cure genetic diseases.
The technology is not foolproof, however. Scientists have been modifying genes for decades, but there are always trade-offs. We have yet to develop a technique that works 100 percent and doesn't lead to unwanted and uncontrollable mutations in other locations in the genome.
In a laboratory experiment, these so-called off-target effects are not the end of the world. But when it comes to gene editing in humans, this is a major stumbling block.
The fact that gene editing is possible in human embryos has opened a Pandora's box of ethical issues.
Here, the ethical debate around gene editing really gets off the ground.
When gene editing is used in embryos — or earlier, on the sperm or egg of carriers of genetic mutations — it is called germline gene editing. The big issue here is that it affects both the individual receiving the treatment and their future children.
This is a potential game-changer as it implies that we may be able to change the genetic makeup of entire generations on a permanent basis.

TEXTO:
Anna had been depressed for much of her adult
life, seeking a range of treatments that might help her
condition. She took anti-depressants, underwent
psychotherapy and even experienced electroconvulsive
[5] therapy – which involves passing electricity through the
whole brain.
Treatments like these were only effective for short
periods, and her depression would soon return. Another
issue she faced was that she was morbidly obese,
[10] weighing 183kg. This resulted in severely limited
mobility which, naturally, exacerbated her depression,
putting in place a vicious circle of poor health.
Gastric bypass surgery helped her lose some
weight but not as much as expected from such a
[15] procedure, and it had little impact on her depression.
As a last resort treatment, psychiatrists took a drastic
decision to implant an electrical device in her brain, an
invasive therapy known as deep brain stimulation. It’s
a treatment that’s already frequently used to alleviate
[20] the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy.
Not only did this treatment significantly help her
depression, it had another astonishing outcome – she
lost more weight than she had with any previous
treatment, losing almost 50% more weight (2.8kg or
[25] 6.1lbs) per month than she had done after the gastric
bypass surgery. Thomas Munte, the neurologist who
treated Anna, says that while the initial goal was to treat
her depression, the weight loss was the “secondary
target” of the surgery. In her case, the two were
[30] seemingly linked.
That Anna successfully lost weight following the
treatment is opening up new discussions about how to
tackle what we know is a world-wide epidemic. It is
also revealing that in some rare cases, the brain can
[35] be “de-tuned” from debilitating behaviors, like addiction.

Thunder - Imagine Dragons
Just a young gun with a quick fuse
I was uptight, wanna let loose
I was dreaming of bigger things
And wanna leave my own life behind
[5] Not a yes-sir, not a follower
Fit the box, fit the mold
Have a seat in the foyer, take a number
I was lightning before the thunder
Chorus
Thunder, feel the thunder
[10] Lightning and the thunder
Thunder, feel the thunder
Lightning and the thunder
Thunder, thunder
Thunder
[15] Kids were laughing in my classes
While I was scheming for the masses
Who do you think you are?
Dreaming 'bout being a big star
You say you're basic, you say you're easy
[20] You're always riding in the back seat
Now I'm smiling from the stage
While you were clapping in the nose bleeds
(Repeat chorus)

“Violence against women causes suffering and misery to victims and their families and places a heavy burden on societies worldwide. It mostly happens within intimate relationships or between people known to each other. Violence against women is a social construction based on a societal consensus about the roles and rights of men and women. Two prevalent forms of violence against women are physical and sexual victimization by an intimate partner, and sexual victimization outside intimate relationships. Explanations of why men engage in aggressive behavior toward women address different levels, including the macro level of society, the micro level of dyadic interactions, and the individual level of perpetrator characteristics. Prevention efforts are needed that address each of these levels.”
