War Pigs

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of death’s construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds
Oh, Lord, yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah!

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait ‘till their judgement day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning
Ashes where their bodies burning
No more war pigs of the power
Hand of God has stuck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings
Oh, Lord, yeah!

Amazon deforestation, once reduced, comes back

Forest loss is detrimental to the earth’s climate. The clearing of woodlands and the fires that accompany it generate one-tenth of all global warming emissions, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists, making the loss of forests one of the biggest single contributors to climate change.

Only about 15 percent of the world’s forest cover remains intact, according to the World Resources Institute. The rest has been cleared, degraded or is in fragments, eliminating ecosystems and dislocating indigenous communities, scientists say.

Behind the rise in deforestation is a strategy by multinational food companies to source their agricultural commodities from ever more remote areas around the world. These areas tend to be where legal protections of forests are weakest.

Fruit Juice, in Moderation, Not Tied to Obesity in Children

…………………….experts believe that drinking fruit juice may lead to obesity in children, but a new review has found that juice in moderation does not cause excess weight gain in children under 18.

Researchers pooled data……………… eight prospective observational studies of the association between regular 100 percent fruit juice consumption and weight gain. The analysis, published in Pediatrics, includes 34,470 boys and girls under 18.

The studies used something called the B.M.I. z score, …………………….statistically adjusts body mass index according to age. Changes in these scores of 0.25 to 0.50 are generally considered to put the child at risk for obesity.

After controlling for total energy intake, birth weight, ethnicity and other factors, a 6- to 8-ounce daily serving of 100 percent fruit juice was associated with a 0.087 unit average increase in B.M.I. z score in children 1 to 6 — equivalent to about 0.3 pounds. In those 7 to 18, there was no link ……………….. all between drinking fruit juice and weight gain.

The lead author, Dr. Brandon J. Auerbach, an acting instructor in medicine at the University of Washington, said that based ……………………. the current evidence, “consuming one daily serving of fruit juice is not associated with weight gain in children. So fruit juice in moderation, not more than a serving a day, is safe.”

TEXTO:

They can reach 2 meters in length, eat a little bit of

everything and are essential for the conservation of what

is left of their habitat, the Atlantic Rainforest. We are

referring to the caiman alligator.

[5] With the destruction of the natural environment, like

other species, the crocodilian reptile’s existence is being

threatened, and hunting is one of the culprits behind

their endangerment, according to the analysis of

conservationist Yhuri Nóbrega, from Project Caiman. “It’s

[10] a difficult issue to approach because it is cultural. At any

of our activities or lectures, we see that people have either

already tried crocodile meat or know someone who has,”

he says.

“In the interior of Bahia, especially near the São

[15] Francisco River, the meat is known as ‘the cod of the

river,’ because it is salted for preservation, and because

of the way in which it is commercialized,” explains

Luciano Verdade, a professor at USP and one of the

leading crocodile experts in Brazil. In the case of the

[20] Caiman latirostris (the caiman’s scientific name), the

issue is that the species generates economic interest,

both for its skin and its meat.

In what remained of the Atlantic Forest, there is

little space for the small communities, especially during

[25] the dry season. It is not difficult to find the crocodiles

outside of their natural environment. It is not unusual to

find them in settling ponds, near pig farming or breeding

pastures.

“Something similar occurs in the wetlands

[30] (Pantanal), but through a natural process. During the dry

season, the pond is reduced, creating a reserve of

bacteria that comes in contact with the crocodiles,” says

the professor. That contamination adds weight to the claim

that consuming crocodile meat from an unknown source

[35] may not be a good idea.

As an educator, I see the Arts as a supreme way for students to express themselves, be creative, relieve stress and just enjoy themselves. Unfortunately, in the current economic times, these are the first programs to be cut. My school has one art teacher and one music teacher. It is a shame when you see how much talent there is that remains untapped due to lack of funding and opportunity. I don't know who decides that only math and English and science are important, because I think kids need a chance to shine in other ways. Acting classes can be therapeutic and music and art can transform the mundane into the magical!

ACTIVE TEENS BUILD STRONG BONES FOR LIFE
Tweens and teens who run, jump and dance may become adults with less breakable bones
Sharon Oosthoek - May 8, 2017

As much as a third of an adult’s skeleton will form during adolescence. So the more active someone is during this time, the stronger those bones will become.
Adolescence is a critical time for growing strong bones. That's especially true between the ages of 10 and 14 in girls, and 12 to 16 for boys. As much as 36 percent of the adult skeleton forms during these four years. But how strong those bones become depends on how active someone had been during those formative years. That’s the finding of a new study.
"The bigger the bones children make when they are young, the harder it will be to break when they get older," explains Laura Tosi. She’s a doctor who was not involved in the new work. But she knows the topic well. Tosi directs the Bone Health Program at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Parents are being urged to sign up for a free app which tells them the sugar content of food and drink. The "sugar smart app", from Public Health England, PHE, works by scanning barcodes and revealing total sugar in cubes or grams. Officials hope it will help combat tooth decay, obesity and type-two diabetes and encourage families to choose healthier alternatives. PHE says young children are eating three times more than the sugar limit. Its new Change4Life advertising campaign, which includes the sugar app, suggests that on average children aged four to ten years old are consuming 22kg of added sugar a year. That's about 5,500 sugar cubes – more than the weight of an average five-year-old child. The app has been developed to raise awareness of how much sugar is contained in everyday food and drink. It works on more than 75,000 products, offering a quick guide to help parents to assess potential purchases that may harm their children's health. PHE has previously said it supported a sugar tax to help people cut down on the sugar they eat. It has also called for reduced marketing of sugary food and drinks towards children in stores, on TV and online as well as fewer price promotions on sugar-laden products.

your hairs turning grey?”
The mother tried to use this occasion to teach her child:
“It is because of you, dear. Every bad action of yours will

The child replied innocently: “Now I know why
grandmother has only grey hairs on her head.”
